DINNER GUEST
(Smokey The Persian Cat)
As nightfall cat-crawled,
a black Persian parked
himself under a lamplight.
Like a sentry atop a lofty tower
he kept watch,
searching for me,
knowing I would call him for dinner.
And I did.
And he came down.
And we chatted.
He, a meow.
Me, a howdy-do.
Minutes later, fish dinner done,
he wandered off,
melding into night.
