GENERATIONS
Imagine you meet yourself:
the old you,
the young you,
face to face,
and you strike up a conversation.
The older you shares with the younger
the knowledge of what you will become,
where you will travel,
who you will meet,
how you will live,
when you will die.
The younger listens attentively,
curiously, even incredulously,
as each life-affirming moment is revealed.
The younger knows not what to believe:
whether to follow the counsel of the elder
or to pursue another course.
As the elder looks at the youth,
the younger looks to the horizon.
After a long pause it dawns on them.
Soul and brain conspired long ago
to let youth and age be just that --
to live in youth;
to learn with age.
